最古の神社「伊弉諾神宮」The oldest Shrine “Izanagi Jingu”

日本にはたくさんの神社仏閣がありますが、

一番古い神社の名前を知っていますか。

それは淡路島にある「伊弉諾神宮」です。

If you have been to Japan, you realized there are many temples and shrines in Japan.

Have you visited the oldest shrine?

It is “Izanagi jingu” which is located in Awaji island, Hyogo prefecture.

由緒ある神社であるばかりでなく、

とても美しく心が落ち着く場所です。

先週、淡路に行った際に訪れましたので、

「伊弉諾神宮」の魅力を少し紹介したいと思います。

This beautiful shrines has not only having long history but also inspiring awe of god.

Last week, I went to Awaji island and visited this shrine too.

So I would like to share this attractive shrine with you today.

それでは、大きな鳥居をくぐって伊弉諾神社を見ていきましょう。

Then let’s enter a big shrine gate “Torii” and walk down long approach to shrine!

まず「伊弉諾」という名前は神話に出てくる神の名前からつけられました。

境内には様々な歴史的な情報や神話に関する物を見つけることができます。

The shrine’s name “Izanagi” was named after Japanese myth.

You will see many historical information and interesting things in grounds of the shrine.

手水鉢（ちょうずばち）A chōzubachi (手水鉢) or water bowl is a vessel used to rinse the hands in Japanese temples, shrines, and gardens.

では、お参りしましょう。

こちらが立派な拝殿です。

I prayed at worship hall.

It felt something special to talk to god “izanagi” who created Japan and gods of Japan.

そして、こちらは「夫婦大楠」です。

かつて二本だった楠が一つになったということから、

安産、子授け、夫婦円満を祈願する人が多くいます。

そして、なんと樹齢は900年以上と言われています。

とても神聖なエネルギーを感じませんか。

This huge camphor tree is called “Meoto Okusu (Married Couple Big camphor tree)”.

This tree was originally 2 trees but they became one tree, so the tree has been worshiped as a symbol of pregnancy, easy delivery of baby, and happy marriage.

Don’t you see holly energy from this 900 years old tree?

さて、社務所では、お札、お守り、おみくじなどがあります。

有名な神話にまつわる神社なので、

神話を紹介する絵本やおみくじは英語でも書かれています。

After praying you should visit shrine office, there are many kinds of talisman, paper fortune, etc…

The Oracle "Omikuji" is usually written very traditional Japanese style, but you can read English version on the other side of paper.

お参りの後には、売店で記念のお土産を買ったり、

おやつやコーヒーを楽しむことができます。

わたしは桃味のソフトクリームを頂きました。

実は、桃は神話の中にでてくる果物の一つなんです。

When you cross a beautiful red bridge, you will see a shop.

You can buy souvenir, local products, coffee and snacks.

I enjoyed peach soft ice cream in a garden.

Peach is one of fruits that appears in myth of Izanagi.

最後に、鮮やかな赤い橋から池の鯉に餌をやりました。

すごい勢いですよね。

（鯉の餌は売店で売っています）

Before leaving this beautiful shrine I fed big carps in a pond.

You can buy food for carps at the shop.

さて、ここは日本最古の神社ですが、

淡路島にはもう一つ有名な神社があります。

それは「おのころ島神社」といい、

ここには日本で一番大きな鳥居があるんです。

この神社についてはまた別の機会にご紹介したいと思います。

In Awaji island there is another famous shrine as the shrine that has the biggest "Torii" (shrine gate).

This shrine is called “Onokoro-jima Shrine” and the name describes that Awaji island is the first island created by two gods “Izanagi no mikoto” and “Izanami no mikoto” in Japan.

I would like to write about this shrine soon.

「日本で一番」の神社が二つもある淡路島。

実は、神戸から高速バスで1時間半で行くことができます。

その際には「世界で一番長いつり橋」（ギネス認定）明石海峡大橋を渡るんですよ。

なんだかスケールの大きい旅が出来そうでしょう？

次回、大阪や京都に来た際には、少し足をのばして、

是非淡路島で豊かな自然と歴史を体験してみてください。

The island which has two greatest shrines, Awaji island.

It’s not far from Kobe city. It takes only for 1.5 hours by express bus.

When you across Setouchi sea, the bus will take “the longest suspended bridge in the world”.( Listed in Guinness World Records)

I guess It’s going to be a “big scale” trip to Awaji!!

When you come to Osaka or Kyoto, please extend your visit to Awaji-island.
